Negative pressure pulmonary edema - an unusual potential hazard of ENT surgery.
Pak J Otolaryngol Jan ;24(2):23-4.

Negative pressure pulmonary edema (NPPE) I Post-obstructive pulmonary edema (POPE) is a rare complication of anaesthesia, but it is serious enough to warrant quick recognition and effective treatment. This type of pulmonary edema can develop immediately or upto six hours later even after the upper airway obstruction is alleviated and may result in life threatening hypoxaemia. Aggressive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions can be avoided if the syndrome is recognized. A report of pulmonary edema following acute upper airway obstruction in adult is presented, and the literature is reviewed.
