J Fatima Jinnah Med Coll Lahore Jan ;2(2):60-2.

Nasal polyps is a disease of the young adults with a slight male predominance. It is mainly a disease of rural dwellers with almost equal distribution among the lower and middle classes with relatively fewer incidences in patients belonging to the upper class. Nasal blockage in the main presentation of patients, which is present in 100% of patients. Postnasal drip, rhinorrhoea, loss of smell, and sneezing occur in more than 60% patients. About 10% nasal polyp patients are asthmatics and 25% have history of drug sensitivity. Aerodynamic factors do not seem to play a part in the formation of nasal polyps as unilateral nasal polyps are present with equal frequency on either side of deviated septum and not more commonly on the concave side. It also seems that unilateral disease is a different entity from bilateral disease and the etiology might be different in each of these cases. Majority of the polyp patients have diseased throats either in the form of pharyngitis or tonsillitis.
