Urethral Polyp in Children.
J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;10(4):149-50.

Occurrence of urethral polyps is rare in children. We report a case of a urethral polyp in which the child presented with a worm like structure protruding from the urethral meatus. Cystoscopic resection was not possible due to the large size of the polyp as bladder exploration through suprapubic approach was required for the excision of polyp. Recovery was uneventful and patient was asymptomatic after 6 months, follow-up.

Case Report: A 6 months old male child presented with a worm like structure protruding out of the urethral meatus. The baby had intermittent urinary obstruction since birth and presented with oneweek history of a mass protruding from the urethral meatus. Ultrasonography of the urinary tract showed distended bladder but no hydronephrosis or hydroureter. Urethra showed dilatation of the penile urethra and a filling defect along the urethra starting at the verumontanum. Cystoscopy was attempted but no useful information could be gathered or intervention could be performed due to the mass in the urethra. Bladder exploration through suprapubic approach was performed and the mass was pushed back in to the bladder with cystoscope. It was about 6 cms long and was attached to the verumontanum with a narrow stalk. Resection was easy by electro-cautery and the baby had an uneventful postoperative recovery. Histology of the polyp suggested it to be a benign urethral polyp. After 6 months followup the child was symptom-free with no urethral obstruction.
