Does Perinatal Administration of Ranitidine and Cimetidine Demasculinize the Male Offspring?.
Mother & Child Jan ;13(3):83-8.

In the present study an effort was made to assess the role of maternally administered ranitidine and cimetidine on masculinization of the male offspring. Male albino mice were perinatally exposed to ranitidine and cimetidine during late gestation and early neonatal life, while control group animals were given equivalent amount of distilled water. The cimetidine exposed male progeny, when observed for gross parameters and histological profile, confirmed the maldevelopment, testicular atrophy and feminization which was absent in ranitidine exposed male offspring. Since the widespread and indiscriminate use of cimetidine causes threat to human beings, therefore it should be used with caution in pregnant women, especially during the critical period of differentiation of gonads.
