Strengthening health system with key strategies in the post devolution times in Pakistan.
Pak J Public Health Jan ;2(2):43-6.

Pakistan has undergone organizational reforms through a constitutional amendment in June 2011 (famous as 18th amendment). Health as a result becomes solely a provincial subject. Since provinces are autonomous and constitutionally more powerful to decide for their health systems roadmaps, it is very opportune time for all of them to consider and employ best practices and oft advocated strategies for health system strengthening worldwide. Health system in Pakistan has been lagging behind in terms of key health indicators of maternal and child health as well as of Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV/AIDS. To accelerate the pace toward achieving or at least nearing the millennium development goals and targets concerned, it would be imperative to take some radical and rational steps for improving the performance of our health system. Issues of governance, financing, human resource and service delivery ought to be taken on priority for the sake of serving the poverty struck people of Pakistan.
