Skeletal Relapse following Orthognathic Surgery in Angle`s class-III cases.

Objective: To evaluate skeletal relapse after one year of orthognathic surgery in Angle`s class-III cases. Design: Thirty patients with Angle`s class-III skeletal base were selected. Lateral cephalograms were taken before orthognathic surgery, immediately after surgery and one year after surgery. Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted at Marmara University, Institute of Health Sciences, where orthodontic treatment was performed. The orthognathic surgery was carried out in the plastic surgery department at the University of Istanbul. The relapse was studied one year after the surgery. Subjects and Methods: The study was carried out on the lateral cephalograms of these patients. Comparison was made between the lateral cephalograms taken immediately after surgery and one year after the surgery. Results: We used 13 skeletal parameters. Out of these 6 showed increase and 7 showed decrease in their values. Witt`s appraisal showed a relatively significant decrease in value. Conclusion: Surgical skeletal relapse one year after surgery was established.
