T plate fixation in extra articular distal humeral fractures in adults.
J Pak Orthop Assoc Jan ;24(1):23-6.

Objective: To find out the efficacy of T-Plate fixation in extra articuler distal humeral fractures in adults. Place and Duration of study: This study was accomplished in the department of Orthopaedics Nishtar Hospital, Multan from Apr-2008 to Apr-2010. Study Design: Descriptive case series Material and methods: 42 patients having fresh close extra articular distal humeral fractures, 4.5 mm T Plate was applied via posterior approach to stabilize the fractures. The aim was to assess the results of T Plating in terms of stability and union. All fractures healed in average sixteen weeks (14-20) weeks. The study lead to the conclusion that T Plate is one of the good options for fixation of such type of fractures. Results: The ages of the patients ranged from 20-50 years with mean of 34.90 years. 28 patients got fractures as a result of road traffic accidents. All fractures healed in 16 weeks except 3 which united in 20 weeks time. The range of motion was recorded with goniometer. 11 patients (27.5%) had excellent range of motion, majority of them belonged to younger age group. Conclusion: For each patient implant selection would be different as there is no agreed surgical procedure for closed diaphyseal fracture of tibia which has almost the same union and complication rates. T plate fixation is a satisfactory procedure in extra articular distal humeral fractures in adults.
