Pneumonia is a major pneumococcal syndrome resulting in more than 90 per 100 000 deaths among children in South Asia1. Prevention of pneumococcal disease through effective vaccination is therefore, a top priority for healthcare programs. Polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccines have been around for decades, but are recommended for use in adults.
