Pak J Surg Jan ;30(3):259-62.

Objective: To determine the frequency of tendon rupture aft er repair of fl exor tendons of hand using modifi ed Kessler’s technique with Kleinert protocol. Study Design: Descriptive Cross-sectional study. Sett ing And Duration: Plastic Surgery Unit, Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar, Orthopaedic and Trauma unit, Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar from April 2011 to March 2012 Methodology: In this study 157 patients with fl exor tendon injury of hand were subjected to primary tendon repair within 24 hours of sustaining injury. At the end of fi rst week, Kleinert protocol of dynamic traction was initiated. All the patients were followed up for six weeks and fl exor tendon rupture was recorded. Th e details were recorded in a specialized Proforma and analyzed with SPSS version 17. Results: A total of 157 patients with fl exor tendon injury at hand undergoing primary tendon repair were analyzed. Th e mean age of patients was 33 ± 1.26 years with male to female ratio of 6.7:1. 62% patients had injury of Flexor Digitorum Superfi cialis while 38% patients had Flexor Digitorum Profundus injury. Ten percent of the patients had post tendon repair rupture. Conclusion: Two strands of modifi ed Kessler core suture to repair fl exor tendon injury with Kleinert protocol splint results in a low rupture rate.
