Clinical featurs and risk factors of varicose veins at Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad.

Objective: To determine the risk factors and presents clinical features of the varicose veins in the patients at Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad. Materials and methods: This descriptive and observational study contained 36 patients and was conducted at Liaquat university hospital Hyderabad sindh from January 2011 to January 2012. Both genders were included in the study, after diagnosis of varicose veins. For the diagnosis detailed history was taken; physical examination and Doppler ultrasound was carried out. Results: In this study males were found more commonly involved than females. Mostly varicose veins were noted in the middle age group of 31 to 45 years. Left limbs were found involved in the majority of the cases 47.22% and right limbs were 41.66% whereas bilateral varicose veins were found only in 11.11% of the cases. Farmers were in the majority 25.0%. Mostly combined symptoms 88.88% were seen in the patients and second most common symptom was pain which was present in 75.0% of the cases. According to the CEAP classification of varicose veins 50.00% patients were in class 2. Conclusion: In conclusion the prolonged standing was found most common risk factor of varicose vein. Different symptoms pain, swelling, pigmentation, skin changes were commonly found and doppler ultrasound is the very good technique for diagnosis and for surgical planning of varicose veins.
