In this modem age of obstetrics, induced abortion by traditional birth attendants, `TBA` is considered one of most common cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. Our objective of this study is to see the complications arising as a result of induced abortions by TBA coming to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. All patients with history of induced abortion were included in this study. Their age, duration of gestation, interval between abortion and admission to hospital, procedure performed by TBA, nurse or doctor, condition at time of admission and complications were studied. Twenty eight patients came with induced abortion, over a period of 01 year which comprises 7.2% of all abortions admitted. All of these patients had complications as under. Septicemia - 10, Shock - 2, Gut perforation - 6, Death of patients - 4,Fever with Irregular bleeding P/V 6. More awareness regarding contraception should be given at primary health care centres in order to avoid serious consequences of individual abortions by TBA. TBA should be trained with some knowledge of female genital tract anatomy and about the hazards of such procedures. They should understand the problems and refer the patients to properly equipped referral centres.
