Pantothenate Kinase Associated Neurodegeneration (PKAN).
Pak Paed J Jan ;41(4):264-7.

Pantothenate kinase associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), formerly known as Hallervorden-Spatz disease (HSD), is a neurodegenerative disease typified by progressively increasing neuronal dysfunction, manifested in patients by signs such as dystonia, rigidity, choreoathetoid movements and delayed developmental milestones. In our case report, we present an 11 year old male who came to the Pediatric Emergency of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore with evidence of dystonia, rigidity, and neuroregression. The patient was diagnosed to be a case of typical PKAN by the distinctive ?eye of the tiger? appearance on magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and managed conservatively for a period of almost 1 month.
