Menarche Pattern in Adolescent Secondary School Girls of District Lodhran Bahawalpur Punjab.

Background: Variations and troubles in menstrual pattern of adolescent girls may affect their physical, psychological and social well-being. Present study was planned to assess the menstrual pattern in various secondary schools of District Lodhran Bahawalpur Punjab. Objectives: To evaluate the menstrual pattern in School going adolescent subjects and to evaluate the factors that influences the potential troubles regarding the menstruation and menarche of District Lodhran Bahawalpur Punjab Materials and Methods: It is a Descriptive study, planned in the departments of Biochemistry and Anatomy, then it was carried out in the secondary school going adolescent female subjects, age ranges from 12 to 16 years based on questionnaire especially designed for this purpose. The data was acquired through international research protocols and then analyzed through SPSS version 16. Results: In present study we have approached total of 500 female volunteers, among them 45.56 % subjects had menarche at the age of 12 years, 36.24 % at the age of 13 years and 18.20% at the age of 14 years. Mean age for menarche was 13 ±1.07 years. The duration of menstrual cycle was 38 % in between 2125 days, 40.0 % in between 26-30 days, 15.0 % was found more than 30 days and 7.0 % in less than 1 day. Mild Dysmenorrhea had found in almost half of the volunteers (51%) while the severe Dysmenorrhea seen in 33% with predominant symptoms of abdominal pain and lower back ache. Conclusion: In present study we have found that majority of the young subjects were victim of fatigue, anger, acne and mild Dysmenorrhea with or without pre menstrual syndrome (PMS). Menstrual abnormalities need to be addressed as early as possible in order to minimize the onwards consequences. Adolescents should be educated in this regard and encouraged to chart their menstrual problems, frequency and regularity.
