Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis: Current Situation in Pakistan.
Pak J Chest Med Jan ;23(2):28-30.

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a form of tuberculosis (TB) infection which is resistant to at least two of the most effective first-line anti-TB drugs, namely isoniazid and rifampicin. Globally, in 2015, an estimated 480,000 new MDR-TB and an additional 100,000 rifampicinresistant TB (RR-TB) cases were eligible for MDR-TB treatment and around 250 000 died during this period. MDR-TB, or rifampicin-resistant TB, occurs in 3.9% of new TB cases and 21% of previously treated TB cases. Six countries accounted for 60% of the new cases; India, Indonesia, China, Nigeria, Pakistan and South Africa.
