Problems in Orthognathic Surgery planning and execution.

The success of orthognathic surgery depends upon accurate diagnosis of the deformity, appropriate treatment plan, reproduction of the treatment plan in the operating theater and postoperative stability of the surgical procedure. Problems may arise during, presurgical assessment, orthodontic preparation, clinical planning, model planning and surgery. This review is intended to highlight problems associated with these stages and possible solutions with predictability of outcome. The difficulties in diagnosis, surgery and postoperative management are also discussed and suggestions are based upon authors personal experience.
