Changing Epidemiology of Measles in Children Presenting to Children`s Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, Multan.

Objective: To determine epidemiology of measles in children presenting at Children`s Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, Multan in 2018. Study design: Descriptive study Duration: Six months from January 2018 to June 2018. Settings: Department of Pediatric Medicine Children`s Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, Multan Methods: Data about all children with a clinical diagnosis of measles according to WHO case definition admitted during January 2018-June 2018 to Children`s Hospital and the Institute of Child Health, Multan was collected and analyzed. Results: out of 150 patients with measles, (86) children (57% of total) were less than 1 year of age and 77 (51 %) were less than 9 months of age. Lowest age recorded was 3 months. Vaccination status of 75 children was noted and 48 % were unvaccinated, mostly due to having less than 9 months of age. Conclusion: Epidemiology of measles is changing. Measles can now affect infants from three months of age. Earlier vaccination against measles is needed in the EPI program with first dose given at six months of age.
