Malabsorption.

Malabsorption impairs the capability of child to gain weight and height and ultimately affecting immunity and impacts on psychosocial and general development. Malabsorption comprises of a wide spectrum of diseases, including infections, autoimmune, genetic, drug induced and miscellaneous causes. The sign and symptoms and routine laboratory investigations in many of these cases are similar, and a specific diagnosis often depends on specialized laboratory investigation, endoscopy and microscopic examination (histology) of intestinal tissue. The aim of this review is to define malabsorption, pathophysiology and its epidemiology, to describe briefly the clinical presentation, approach to diagnosis, and management of etiological factors of malabsorption in pediatric age group.
