Bad obstetric history: cytogenetic and haematological parameters.
Pak J Med Res Jan ;39(4):139-41.

One hundred and sixteen couples with intercousin marriages and exhibiting bad obstetric history were screened for their cytogenetic and haematological parameters as a preliminary study in order to look for any association of these parameter with thier obstetric history. Karyotyping was carried out from blood lymphocytes, while haematologic parameters were analysed from whole blood. It was observed that none of the patients had any abnormality in the number of chromosomes, and all the haematological parameters were within normal limits. Of these couples, 105 were Rh-positive; 6 were Rh-negative-, while 5 comprised of the male partner being Rh-negative and their wives being Rh-positive. Intercousin marriages may have some role in the bad obstetric history, hence in the light of our findings, it is postulated that molecular level cytogenetic studies are essential to probe the causes for bad obstetric history.
