Comprision of Efficacy of Glargine and Lispro with Neutral Protamine Hagedorn and Regular Insulin in Children with Type I Diabetes Mellitus at Tertiary Care Hospital.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare combinations of Glargine & Lispro with the combination of Neutral Protamine Hagedorn & regular insulin in children with Type-I diabetes mellitus. Study Design: It was a randomized control trial. Place and Duration of Study: It was conducted in pediatric department of Allied Hospital Faisalabad, over a period of 6 months. Materials and Methods: Ninety patients of both genders with ages between 2-15 years with uncontrolled Type-I diabetes mellitus were included in the study. Two treatment analogues (Glargine & Lispro) were tested among two groups. P-value < 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Comparison of combinations of Glargine and Lispro and combination of Neutral Protamine Hagedorn and regular insulin in children with Type-I diabetes showed mean HbA1c level after 6 months of treatment as 7.13 +- 0.84 in and 8.16 +- 1.21 in both groups respectively. P value was 0.0001 showing a significant difference between two groups. Conclusion: Combinations of Glargine and Lispro was significantly better for controlling mean HbAIc level in children with Type-I diabetes as compared to the combination of neutral protamine Hagedorn and regular insulin.
