J Med Sci Jan ;28(1):81-6.

Objective: To evaluate the perceptions of respiratory care program students on early introduction of clinical skills teaching.Material and Methods: Seventy-one respiratory care students who completed their ECE course successfully were asked to fill a questionnaire using a Likert-scale. The questionnaire was developed based on the main themes that emerged from the focus group discussion. Results: Majority of respondents agreed that `it was good to introduce clinical skill since the early years of the curriculum`. On the other hand, students were not satisfied with some aspects of the organization and structure of ECE. An overall degree of agreement with ECE was found to be good, although the degree of agreement varied between the different themes of ECE and was found to be greater in males than in females. Conclusion: The introduction of ECE in respiratory care program can be useful and has a positive impact on student learning and on their attitude toward the profession.
