Retinoblastoma Family.

Parents from rural area of district Thar presented a child of two years age with white pupillary reflex in the left eye at the department of ophthalmology Liaquat University Medical and health Sciences, Eye Hospital Hyderabad. After history and cursory examination both pupils were fully dilated and child was examined with indirect ophthalmoscope under general anesthesia. Left eye showed multi nodular mass, filling almost entire vitreous cavity behind the clear lens. Right eye was normal. On clinical examination the diagnosis of retinoblastoma was made. Further investigations were done to find out the calcification in the tumour and its extra ocular extension. B-Scan of left eye showed calcification, and extension of tumour to the margin of optic nerve. CT-Scan also revealed presence of calcification in the growth but involvement of optic nerve was not discernible. The left eye was enucleated along with maximum stump of optic nerve and send to the laboratory. Histopathology report showed undifferentiated retinoblastoma and presence of tumour cells in the terminal transected part of optic nerve. The child was referred to atomic energy center for radiation therapy. The detailed past history and retrospective of hospital discharge cards of children of this family revealed that the parents have eight children including the present child.
