Ileocecal Tuberculosis radiolgraphic features.
Pak J Radiol Jan ;15(3):8-17.

This article is based on the observations of the authors that tuberculosis is perhaps the most common disorder affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Ileocecal region is the commonest location for the disorders. This study was carried out in the Department of Radiology Mayo Hospital, Lahore from March2000 to June 2002. All positive barium follow through examinations for Ileocecal tuberculosis were included and evaluated for their disease pattern, thirty patients were included in the study. Ultrasound was possible in twenty patients and their findings were also compared. On barium studies results showed various patterns from feathery mucosa of terminal ileum to complete destruction of the terminal ileum and caecum. On ultrasound thickened gut loop and mesenteric lymph nodes were appreciated. Conclusion of the study is that in our country if a disease process is seen at ileocecal junction. Ileocecal tuberculosis should be the top most diagnosis. Ultrasound can also show lymph nodes but is less sensitive in detecting early mucosal changes.

USER COMMENTS

The conclusions are absolutely non-scietific and misleading. It is claimed that TB is the most common ileocecal disease without including any other disease in the tested population. it is a population based study - and the duration is too short (3 months) the area of population limited (only one center) no mention of the final diagnostic gold standard (it is just assumed that ultrasound and barium study findings all diagnostic).
