J Riphah Coll Rehab Sci Jan ;6(2):58-62.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Muscle Energy Technique and static stretching on pain and active cervical range of motion (ROM) in treatment of non-specific neck pain. Methodology: This interventional study was conducted at physiotherapy department Mayo hospital Lahore, Pakistan. There were two groups and each group was allocated with 22 patients. Group A received static stretching of neck muscles and Group B received Muscle Energy Techniques. Patient included in both groups between 18 and 60years of age. Neck Disability Index (NDI) was used in this study. Results: Paired sample t-test was used for analysis. Statistically significant improvement is found in both groups as P value < 0.05. Cconclusion: The result shows both the treatment techniques, muscle energy technique and static stretching were effective in alleviating the non-specific neck pain in terms of decreasing pain intensity and increasing active cervical range of motion as there was no significant difference between the two groups, however MET was superior than static stretching in decreasing pain intensity and increasing active cervical range of motion. Keywords: Non-specific neck pain, Muscle energy technique, static stretching.
