Splenoptosis (wandering spleen).
Pak J Pathol Jan ;11(4):32-5.

Wandering spleen is a rare condition and the term commonly applied to splenic hypermobility that results from laxity or maldevelopment of its suspensory ligaments. The diagnosis is very difficult due to the lack of symptoms, unless splenic torsion has occurred. Patients may have an asymptomatic abdominal mass, an acute abdomen, or, most commonly, a mass associated with pain. Laboratory data are nonspecific, but the diagnosis can be confirmed by imaging studies. By computed tomography and duplex ultrasonography the spleen could be located but the possibility of splenic infarction could only be ruled out by radioisotopes studies. We present a case of wandering spleen in which radioisotope blood flow study confirmed infarcted wandering spleen and, resulted into successful splenectomy rather than splenoplexy.
