Puberty induction in constitutional delay.

Six girls who presented with concern about delay in sexual development were studied. All these patients were between 14 and 15 years and were diagnosed constitutional delay in growth and adolescence . Patients had their weight and height just below 3 centile on distance charts. They had prepubertal Sexual Maturity Rating (SMR), normal external genitalia and internal genital organs. After one year of follow-up puberty was induced using conjugated estrogen because of extreme emotional distress of patient and family. In 12 months 3/6 patients progressed into SMR II, 2/6 SMR III, 1/6 had menarche. Breast development was satisfactory in all patients with marked improvement in mood and physical performance. There were no side effects.
