Electro-Encephalographic findings and clinical symptomatology in 50 cases of complex partial seizures.

Fifty seven cases were initially included in the study but 7 cases were dropped for various reasons leaving 50 children, 27 male and 23 female with an age range of 2 to 15 years. A detailed history included age of onset frequency and duration of fits was recorded. A detailed clinical and CNS examination was conducted including fundus examination. A 20 minutes interictal EEG was done in every case. EEG was done on 10 channel EEG machine. Patients presenting with absences only or absences with focal jerks, comprised the largest group (32%). 15 cases were placed in Generalized tonic-clonic group. 12% patients presented with abscences only. Results: EEG was abnormal in 33 patients (66%). However, 17 clinically established cases had normal EEG (34%). Commonest abnormality was multifocal finding in 12 cases (24%), while next in ranking was temporal lobe discharge (22%). In clinical presentations, aura was positive in 22 cases (44%).
