Prevalence of Hepatitis B and C in diabetics.

Hepatitis B & C viruses (HBV & HCV) can cause chronic infections of the liver often leading to a multitude of problems. The chronic pathological features reflect irreversible chronic injury of the liver parenchyma. The association of chronic HBV and HCV infections with hepatocellular carcinoma is well known. Diabetic patient may be at increased risk of developing hepatitis B & hepatitis C infection in view of frequent needle pricks. Diabetes Mellitus is a disease affecting multiple systems of the body and diabetics are prone to get infections. The combination of diabetes mellitus with chronic liver disease and its complications may be devastating. In the following studies it was found that prevalence of HBV & HCV in diabetics is significantly higher than normal population.
