Nutritional status of mothers in reproductive age group (15-45) years).

Objective: To find out nutritional status of mothers in reproductive age group (15-45) years, to find out association of the variables studied, to formulate recommendations based on the study results. Design: Hospital based cross-sectional study, conducted on 361 randomly selected mothers. Setting: Family Planning Centre of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre, Karachi. Results: In this study mean age at marriage was 18.4 years, mean duration of marriage was 12.6 years, mean age of mothers was 31 years and average number of children per mother was 5. As regards nutritional status of mothers in 42.10% BMI was low, in 18.85% it was desirable, 25.48% mothers were overweight while 13.57% mothers were obese. Conclusion: The study concludes that 42.10% mothers had low BMI and it was not associated with any of the variables studies.
