Salmonella Gallinarum Septicaemia in Humans.
Pak J Med Sci Jan ;17(1):50-2.

Background: Salmonella gallinarum is the cause of Fowl Typhoid with almost 100% mortality. However, to our knowledge, there is no report of such infection in human subjects. Purpose: To report two cases of salmonella gallinarum infection in human subjects. Report: These cases were both from the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent and developed a septicaemic illness following TAB vaccination in Saudi Arabia. The course of the illness was protracted with positive Widal test and growth of nonmotile salmonella on extended incubation of blood cultures which proved to be of gallinarum serotype by EPI system testing. Both survived with slow response to a combination of antibiotics as guided by the antibiotic sensitivity results. We recommend that in any non typhoidal salmonellosis with protracted course, salmonella gallinarum septicaemia should be kept in mind.
