FCPS=Ph.DDoes any body know FCPS (in clinical subject ) is equavalnt to Ph.D.?Is there any official referrence regarding this issue?

Both cannot be equal....PhD is a university based degree and carries more weight and value all around the world...
FCPS is only a diploma course degree awarded by CPSP ( A Pakistani NON university)....
So whether somebody likes it or not...Both are not equivalent...
Having said that in clinical medicine, all over the world Fellowships are awarded and not PhDs....
If somebody has better knowledge on this subject, he should update the forum

not only ph.D but M.S and M.D are superior then f.c.p.s,as they are university degrees while f.c.p.s is only a major diploma awarded by a college

Most of the countries in the world including the USA, European, Scandinavian and Australia honors Pakistani University degrees like Mphil, PhD and MD etc...
The only issue is that the University should be good one with adequate ranking like QAU, NUST, LUMS and GIK etc....
The graduates from these universities are studying and working abroad in many places based on these University degrees
But no body will give any consideration to a degree from Iqra University, Bolan University and other such institutes

Re: Re: FCPS=Ph.Dsir, if you talk of many graduates studying in USA, UK, then i must say that all of Pakistani medical graduates studying in USA and UK have university degrees issued by various universities including UHS, DUHS, LUHMS and even Bolan and Hamdard university. it does not mean that the degrees issued by universities are accepted as such. these graduates pass PLAB or USMLE and then enter in their system. i just want to ask that whether a Pakistani holding MS, MD or PhD can join any US or UK job or institution just on the basis of these degrees?

Well FCPS is primarily a clinical degree. In training, u get to see patients and make management plans. Here focus is more on clinical aspect. While in M.D focus is more on research and relatively less on clinical. Both degrees have equal weightage. FCPS is now recognized not only in KSA,UAE but also by UK. For GMC registration FCPS MEDICINE is now approved for registration.
FCPS is awarded mostly in clinical subjects while M.D mostly in basic subjects, now also in some clinical subjects.

well. you probably perusing MD/MS from some Pakistani university. Usually people opt for MD/MS when they cannot qualify FCPS part 1

FCPS is equivalent and is recognized. I am sharing the GMC official website kindly see yourself that CPSP pakistan is accepted and equals to their degree somehow
