Rash - illness in Pregnancy- case series; a virologic perspective.
Pak J Pathol Nov ;18(4):125-9.
ln pregnant women who present with a generalized rash (or contact with a rash) the cause of which may or may not be clinically apparent, a thorough virological work up in context with the full clinical and epidemiological information is required. Several viruses from different virus families can cross the placenta to cause congenital infection in the foetus and this may result in severe consequences for the baby. Therefore, it is essential to investigate any rash illness or exposure to such an illness during pregnancy, so that appropriate steps are taken. We present a case series of rash illness and exposure to rash illness in pregnant women with a brief review of literature.
