Pak J Ophthalmol Nov ;11(3):77-8.
Posterior capsular opacification is a common cause of decreased vision in aphakic and pseudophakic eyes following extracapsular cataract extraction. The incidence of posterior capsular opacification was studied in four hundred cases following extracapsular cataract extraction. There were 186 cases of simple extracapsular cataract extraction with no intraocular lens Implant and 214 cases with posterior chamber lens implants. The follow-up period ranged from-six months to three years. The incidence was found to be 5.4% among the cases of simple extracapsular cataract extraction and 6% in those with extracapsular cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implants.
