Congenital Syphilis.
Pak Paed J Nov ;41(1):51-3.

Congenital syphilis is a very serious infection seen in infants caused by a parasite, Trepenoma Palladium. It is transferred from mother to her offspring antenatally or during birth. It is estimated that twenty percent babies are still born and half of infected children die after birth. Those who survive suffer from severe physical and neurological complications. Timely treatment can be life saving. We report case of a 3 month old girl who presented with swelling of joints and tenderness of limbs. We found positive serology in the index case as well as both parents who were previously undiagnosed.
