Smoking Pattern and its Correlation with the Blood Parameters in Students of Abbottabad Colleges.
J Ayub Med Coll Abottabad Jan ;11(1):51-3.

A total of 527 students from different colleges of Abbottabad were included in a study on cigarette smoking, which was carried out between May 1990 and September 1997. Out of the total 30.2% were smokers, 503% were ex-smokers and 64.5% were non-smokers. `Fashion` and `tension reduction` were the train excuses given by most of the smokers for smoking. Ex-smokers were very small number and were previously light smokers. They quitted smoking because of health hazards. Most of the students were non-smokers who expressed religion and health effect as the main reason for not smoking. The Red Cell Count, Hemoglobin (Hb) and Packed Cell Volume (PCV) were found raised and showed a close dependent relationship with amount of tobacco.
