Childhood malignant Melanoma in sino-nasal region.
Pak J Otolaryngol Jan ;23(1):23-5.

Malignant melanomas comprise only 1% of nasal & para-nasal sinus cancers and 5% of all head & neck tumours. Sino-nasal malignant melanoma behaves quite differently than their cutaneous counterpart and is more aggressive in nature. Because of the aggressive nature and progressive decline in survival with time, Harwood had suggested that mucosal melanoma is not being considered a curable disease. Melanomas from sinus mucosa are uncommon than the nasal one. They are diagnosed late due to their hidden location and non-specific nature. Malignant melanoma in sino-nasal region in paediatric age group is very uncommon. It must be treated as aggressively as in adults because childhood melanoma may be equally devastating. Even after meticulous removal and follow up, 5- years survival rate is only 30% in case of nasal melanoma and in case of sinus melanoma it is almost zero.
