Community Nephrology: Screening for renal insufficiency in high risk population.

OBJECTIVE: To study the importance of "Screening for renal Insufficiency in High Risk Population". MATERIAL & METHOD: This prospective study was conducted in the District Headquarter Hospital, Bannu from January 2005 to December 2005(01 Year). RESULTS: According to the study total number of patient attended in the out door patient department were 1566, out of which 123 (08%) patients aged 50-70 years. Hypertensive patient were 69 ( 18%) and diabetic patients 54 ( 14.6%). Patient with hypertension and microalbuminuria were 13 (16.6%), hypertensive patients with abnormal creatinine (>1.6mg/ dl) 09 (13%), hypertension diabetic were 10 (20.4%), diabetes with microalbuminuria 09 (15%) and diabetic patients having creatinine >1.6 mg/dl were 07 (13.6%). CONCLUSION: There is a high prevalence of Chronic Renal Insufficiency in hypertensive and diabetic patients. It is feasible to detect renal insufficiency in a primary care level.
