Comparison of cardiovascular response to insertion of laryngeal mask airway with Endotracheal intubation.
J Fatima Jinnah Med Coll Lahore Jan ;1(3-4):49-52.

Aims and Objective: To Compare and evaluate haemodynamic response to insertion of laryngeal mask airway and endotracheal intubation. Material and Methods: Hundred adult male patients of ASA I or II status undergoing inguinal hernia repair were selected and divided into group I and II of 50 patients each, after informed consent. After premedication with injection nalbuphine induction was done with thiopentone and atracurium. Patients were ventilated with O2 +N2O+halothane for 3 minutes. In group I, LMA of size 3 or 4 and in group II, ETT of size 7.5 was inserted. Heart rate, systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressures were recorded before premedication, at insertion of the airway device and then every minute for five minutes. Results: Repeated measures of ANOVA was used for data analysis. A statistically significant difference was seen in haemodynamic response in both groups. Changes in heart rate and systolic blood pressure were significant (p<0.05) while changes in diastolic and mean arterial pressure were not in inter group comparison. Conclusion: LMA insertion was accompanied with lesser lessor pressor response as compared to endotracheal intubation at induction of anesthesia.
