Hydatid cyst disease of urinary tract.

INTRODUCTION: Hydatid disease of urinary tract is uncommon and can be asymptomatic for long periods. DESIGN: Prospective OBJECTIVE: To define the presentation of Hydatid disease in Urinary tract. MATERIAL & METHODS: This study was conducted from March 1997 to March 2007 about 8 cases were encountered in that period. Six kidneys were found to be involved and 2 cases of urinary bladder involvement were observed. RESULTS: Total of 8 cases were presented with vague symptoms, six patients having renal involvement was diagnosed as space occupying lesions. Two patients presented with retention of urine and passing whitish plaques and found bladder growths on ultrasound. All were operated and recovery was uneventful except in one patient in which renal preserving surgery was carried out. CONCLUSION: Hydatid disease of urinary tract is uncommon and having vague symptoms is likely to cause considerable diagnostic difficulties
