Clinical Assessment: A Screening Tool for IUGR.

The diagnosis of IUGR is difficult in antenatal period. Early antenatal diagnosis is important to reduce fetal morbidity and mortality. Clinical risk factors and assessment of, fetal growth retardation were combined to detect for IUGR fetuses in 200 patients. The patients were evaluated, booked and followed up till term. By using clinical risk factors and clinical assessment, out of 200 cases, 46 cases were detected as having IUGR, while at birth 34 cases were found to be growth retarded. This gives the procedure sensitivity of 75%. This study signifies the importance assessment as screening test for identification of IUGR.
