Fetomaternal outcome in eclemptic cases at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.

Objective: To determine the frequency of complication in eclemptic cases.. Design: It was cross-sectional study. Setting: Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur. Population: All women diagnosed as eclemptic during 2004- 2006. Method: Complication in eclemptic patients diagnosed clinically with the help of laboratory investigations were recorded. Main Outcome Measure: Frequency of fetomaternal complications in eclemptic cases. Results: Total of 20560 women delivered in BVH between 2004-2006. 210 were diagnosed with eclimpsia (10.2/1000). Maternal mortality were recorded in 6.19% cases, 21.9% had pulmonary edema.6.6% HELLP syndrome, 5.2% renal failure, 4.2% Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation and 2.3% and Cerebrovascular Accident. In neonatal outcome most common complication was sepsis (18.5%) and 35.2% neonate had APGAR <5 at 5 mint. 12.3% neonatal expired before discharge. Conclusion: Effort should be made to develop awareness in women to receive regular antenatal care to make early diagnosis so that in time treatment can be given to reduce the risk of complication.
