Conformity of moral judgment in adolescents.
Rawal Med J Jan ;34(1):29-32.

Objective To ascertain whether adolescents conform to the moral judgment of a group with emphasis on gender differences. Method A sample of 39 adolescents, 20 girls and 19 boys were selected from a local private school in Islamabad. The rate of conformity was studied by creating a group situation, where 5 confederates posing as group members, were instructed to give responses opposite to the participants` private response on 7 out of 10 moral dilemmas. The private judgment of participants, obtained prior to the group situation, was then compared to their public judgment in the 3 group conditions. Results Overall, 71.8% of participants conformed on at least one trial. The Wilcoxon Rank Sum test results confirmed that there were no significant differences in the rate of conformity in the first two conditions. Chi-square analysis showed that the rate of conformity was significant on 2 simple dilemmas. Conclusions Conformity did occur, but not at significant levels except on 2 dilemmas.
