Nebulized fluticasone vs systemic prednisolone therapy in recurrent wheezy children.
Pak Paed J Jan ;33(1):44-8.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of nebulized fluticasone and oral prednisolone in recurrent wheezy children. Methods: Out of 54 children with recurrent wheeze 25 and 29 children reported on odd and even days were subjected to fluticasone and oral prednisolone respectively. The Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) and Pulmonary Index (PI) were determined on zero hour, 3 hrs, 6 hrs, 12 hrs, 24 hrs, 3rd day and 7th day. Result: The PEFR and pulmonary index markedly improved in both prednisolone and fluticasone group. The improvement in PEFR Group was statistically higher at 3 hrs, 6 hrs and 12 hrs, 7th day in prednisolone group than fluticasone group. However, pulmonary index improved in both group, but at no instance the difference in improvement in both groups was significant. Conclusion: The response of oral prednisolone on PEFR was better as compared to fluticasone group while improvement in Pulmonary Index was the same in both groups. Hence, oral prednisolone should be preferred over nebulized fluticasone on recurrent wheezy children.
