J Allama Iqbal Med Coll Jan ;7(3):12-3.

Incidence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection is on the rise in the third world countries with Pakistan being no exception. (1) Typically hijras,(2;3) long distance male truck drivers(4), intravenous drug abusers(5) and sex workers(2) have been identified as a high risk population. With mandatory screening for HIV prior to blood transfusion, newer groups are being identified. Several Special clinics have been opened in several tertiary care hospitals with the collaboration of the National AIDS program. Allama Iqbal opened a Special (HIV) Clinic In February this year. At the end of first 100 days of successful operation, we decided to conduct a retrospective review of drug naïve subjects to better understand their demographics and HIV transmission risk factors.
