Oral antiviral new treatment options for chronic hepatitis C.
Pak J Gastroenterol Jan ;22(2):1-2.

There is substantial evidence from recent data the oral anti viral therapy had significant effects in early clearance of HCV RNA viral load in initial weeks of therapy. Telaprevir and Boceprevir are two anti viral drugs which were studied extensively in last two years. Both these drugs showed their efficacy in genotype 1. Significant number of patients achieved ETR, SVR, PROVE and SPRINT studies. Telaprevir has also proved to be effective in genotype 2 & 3 patients and even in non responder genotype 1 patients. However these drugs have to be used in combination with PegIFN & RBV. There role as monotherapy for treatment of hepatitis C is still to be proven. (Editorial).
