Comparative susceptibilities of escherichia coli to ceftriaxone alone and in combination with clavulanic acid.
J Med Sci Jan ;17(1):12-5.

Objectives: The aimof the study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of ceftriaxone with and without clavulanic acid against Escherichia coli. Material and Methods: Forty isolates of รข-lactamase producing Escherichia coli (E.Coli) were collected in Microbiology Laboratory at Khyber Medical College Peshawar. These were cultured and their sensitivity tests were done both with and without adding clavulanic acid in ceftriaxone using specially prepared antibiotic disks. National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards zone diameter criteria was used to measure and evaluate the zones of inhibition. Results: The disks containing the combination of ceftriaxone and clavulanic acid produced larger zones of inhibition than those containing only ceftriaxone. Conclusion: Addition of Clavulanic acid adds to the efficacy of ceftriaxone against E.Coli.
