This is a policy paper which is prepared from the primary surveys and research studies conducted by the institutions like Health Services Academy, World Health Organization, Pakistan Medical Research Council, survey conducted by National Programme of Prevention and Control of Hepatitis, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (regarding disposal of radioactive wastes), Environment Division, Environment Protection Agency, and Standard Operative Procedure developed by Federal Government Services Hospital, Islamabad. This paper presents the situation analysis of the healthcare waste management arrangements in Pakistan and highlights the associated strengths and weaknesses as well as the available opportunities guiding future course of action for the policy makers and managers of various programs implementing interventions related to the subject.
