Low Disease Awareness about Tuberculosis among Nursing Staff: A Islamabad Teaching Hospital Perspective.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;5(1):34-7.

The level of disease awareness in the 39 female staff nurses working at the Federal Government Services Hospital Islamabad was assessed. Five diseases were included, namely Tuberculosis, Typhoid, Cholera, Hepatitis B and C (included as one) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The questionnaire contained five questions pertaining to the spread of these diseases. Above average knowledge about AIDS was noted in 86.94%, about Cholera in 82.6%, of Hepatitis B and C in 78.24% and of Typhoid in 69.55%. However, only 52.16% staff nurses had above average knowledge about Tuberculosis. It is concluded that we need to educate our nursing staff further regarding common and important diseases, in particular Tuberculosis.
