Pak J Obstet Gynaecol Jan ;12(1,2):87-92.

1000 patients attending the gynecology out door were questioned about their attitude towards contraception. 87.5% had some knowledge about the availability of contraceptive methods. The usage rate of contraception was 32.7%. 80.4% were motivated through media and 19.6% through personal or family preference. 77.9% used contraception for a duration of less than 2 years. 26.5% discontinued usage of contraception because of desire for a child. Breast feeding rate was reported to be 84%. The desire of a male child has shown to play a significant role in big sized families. The continued failure of the existing methods of family planning is perhaps pointing towards need for working on the new avenues.
