Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in practice - A study conducted in three private clinics in two districts of central rural Punjab.

The aim of this work is to assess the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) particularly in rural areas of Punjab. The total number of patients reviewed were 65,000 and this is the record of the first visit to respective clinic. It was found that 1430 patients had DM out of 65,000 2.2 of the total number of the patients. Male to female ratio was 46% to 54%. There are 15% to 20% with diet and exercise and 10% to 15% with Insulins. It is concluded that DM is becoming very common illness in rural areas as well.
