Ann King Edward Med Uni Jan ;3(3):77-8.

A five year study of 47 cases of vesicovaginal fistulas (VVF) which were repaired in Gynaecology unit III at Lady Willingdon Hospital, Lahore is presented. Forty-seven cases were operated between July 1990 and December 1995. The patients were divided into two groups depending upon the type of suture material used: The suture materials in question are 00 plain catgut and 00 polyglactin (Vicryl). The fistulae were successfully repaired in 65.4% of Group A patients and 85.7% of Group B patients. The successful outcome in the two groups has been compared and analysed. There is no significant (NS >0.05) difference in results within the two groups. Conclusion: Amongst the sutures used, any one of these is equally good.
